Ferrari has officially confirmed that their 2025 Formula 1 car will carry the designation SF-25, maintaining the naming convention that has been in place for the last two seasons. It follows the naming convention that has been in place for the last two seasons, with Ferrari's 2023 and 2024 machines called the SF-23 and SF-24 respectively.
Testing Programme Underway
The announcement comes as Ferrari continues their intensive pre-season testing programme, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc sharing driving duties across multiple sessions. Ferrari have been building up to the 2025 season with test outings at their own track in Fiorano – where Hamilton made his eagerly awaited debut for the team – and Barcelona over the last couple of weeks.
However, the testing hasn't been without its challenges. This week's test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was interrupted by a crash for Hamilton, who has been sharing track time with team mate Charles Leclerc. Despite the setback, the incident is being viewed as part of the normal learning process as Hamilton adapts to Ferrari's systems and procedures.
Pre-Season Schedule
The SF-25 will make its official debut on February 19th during a shakedown at Fiorano, just one day after Formula 1's historic 75th anniversary season launch at London's O2 Arena. Hamilton and Leclerc will get their hands on Ferrari's new car in a shakedown at Fiorano on February 19, before the F1 field head to Bahrain for pre-season testing.
Ferrari is also participating in Pirelli's tire testing programme, with additional running scheduled at Barcelona as the Italian team continues to maximize Hamilton's preparation time before the season opener in Australia.
Adaptation Process
The comprehensive testing programme reflects Ferrari's commitment to ensuring Hamilton's smooth integration into the team. After 18 years with Mercedes-powered machinery, the transition represents one of the most significant driver moves in recent Formula 1 history.
With the SF-25 name now confirmed, attention turns to the car's actual performance capabilities and whether it can provide Hamilton and Leclerc with machinery capable of challenging for both championships in this milestone 75th anniversary season.
